Know Thyself, Love Thyself

Published November 18, 2015 by LoveTrustFaith

Hey Everybody 🙂

I’ve had so much time for myself lately since deciding to take a break from Facebook and I’m loving it! Well, on with an explanation of what this post is all about (because I’m sure y’all are curious by this point).

I’ve been doing a lot of self-reflection recently. What I’m realizing is what I want in my life and also what I don’t want. I’m truly developing more love and compassion for myself through every life experience that I have (hence the title for the post).

I believe we have to navigate through the complexities of our lives and take something positive out of each moment, whether it’s good or it’s bad. Actually the concept of good or bad really just comes down to a person’s perception (as everything can be seen either way). There’s always a silver lining and a chance to learn in all situations. Every day that we’re on this planet is a beautiful gift and we need to remember this (especially on the not-so-nice days).

I’ve struggled to make genuine and intimate relationships in my life but I’m in the process of working on it. What has happened in our past helps to shape who we are but it doesn’t have to define what we are destined to become. It’s all up to us by what we do in the present moment. What do we want for ourselves? What type of people do we want to be surrounded by? What relationships do we want to experience? We’re constantly making decisions about which direction our lives will go. Who would I be if I hadn’t decided to take the trip to Australia and New Zealand? I don’t have the answer to that question but I can say that I’m happy with the person that I’ve become and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to change my life.

We can become so busy that we lose sight of what life is all about. The magic and mystery of it all. Why do things happen the way they do? Why do we meet only certain people on a planet with a population of over 7 billion? Remember there are no accidents and no coincidences. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe it’s easier not to know all the answers but just to enjoy the ride. We honestly have no control over life anyways (even though we like to pretend we do).

I want to share some quotes from a wise man named Ralph Waldo Emerson that sums up my post very eloquently:

  • “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
  • “Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.”
  • “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
  • “Always do what you are afraid to do.”
  • “Life is a journey, not a destination.”   (This is my favorite one because it’s absolutely true)

So to all of you out there, I hope you dare to live your best life. No matter what circumstances you are currently going through, always choose to see the bright side. Our point of view and attitude are things that we CAN control along this crazy rollercoaster that we call life. Do one thing that you love each day. Life is short so let’s have more fun 🙂

Stay tuned for another update on Sunday and if you’ve missed any of my other recent posts (or older posts if you’re really in the mood to read and have extra time to spend), be sure to check it out below!

Love Always,

Maryann
